The last 20 to 30 years have been dark times for fathers rights in the United States. How is this so? In the mid 1990s the American Bar Association stated that greater than 100 million Americans were unable to afford an attorney for any legal matter. Social Planners Ignored Fathers Rights

United States social planners have realized for some time that massive financial problems lie ahead for the United States and the world’s reserve currency, the U.S. dollar. They analyzed these problems on an ongoing basis and based on these analyses they began to make plans and policies, pass legislation to alter the economic course of the country. One of the areas where they began to engineer significant economic changes was entitlements, generally considered to be welfare. Focus soon shifted from welfare recipients to a new ‘bad guy’ issue and a substantial portion of the welfare budget problems were shifted off the government’s shoulders and onto the back’s of the non-custodial parents, ignoring fathers rights.

They knew better than most that they could gain political prominence by creating a new bad guy, beating the federal propaganda drums, and letting the public vent its frustrations with the old welfare system on Deadbeat Dads! So they took this one to the top and fathers became the new target!

What a solution. Create a new class of highly divisive political constituents while at the same time creating a new lower class, Deadbeat Dads. Custodial moms hoped on the fast rolling train. Their ex husbands were being called names, harassed at their jobs and even fired, wages garnished, pictures placed on milk cartons and pizza boxes, hunted like criminals by over zealous bureaucrats.

What resulted was a type of mob hysteria focused upon these fathers, good men with no real choices and obligations that were impossible to meet. This mentality forced many into a desperate low class type of lifestyle living as outcasts and petty outlaws. Others, realizing the hopelessness of their situation, fled the country and went into exile permanently.

Many wrongs were created with this new system. 16 million young men were threatened with arrest for unpaid child support which annually, according to 2005 statistics, is approximately $10 billion. Total collected child support in California is approximately $14 billion, according 2007 statistics. With these non-custodial fathers unable to get legal help, government focusing on the women because that is where the money is, Fathers rights is a dead issue.

Today’s picture? Foreclosure fraud is epidemic, the economy is a disaster, millions have lost their homes with millions more in foreclosure, and unemployment is estimated by some to be as high as 23%. No one can get a mortgage loan, the dollar is near worthless and banks are closing.

Fathers Rights Making Great Headway

Now, for the good news! Dads are winning about half the battles when they choose to insist on their fathers rights. The family law Courts are awarding Fathers with child custody, enforcing visitation rights, modifying child support and other important issues. These Court changes are thanks to the fathers rights groups, non custodial fathers who fought the system and some excellent informative books on fathers rights.

The really big news is that there are now at least ten legal bases for reducing and/or eliminating child support arrears, and all it typically requires is some negotiating and specialized information.
